Collection: Natsumi Noda/Imustan

We are excited to once again feature works from Imustan, a project by the artist Natsumi Noda.

Noda creates tableware inspired by plants, designed as communication tools to spark conversations. Imustan, her separate project, is a ceramic brand themed around “Perhaps it’s possible, maybe it’s suspicious.”

The whimsical and humorous motifs in her work bring a touch of joy to everyday life.

This time, the collection also includes a new addition: caps! The designs feature Imustan’s iconic “shy” character and a pizza motif—playful and full of charm!

The interview article will be published in three parts.
For the first time, I would like to ask how you started making ceramic works and how the two lines "Natsumi Noda" and "Imustan" were born.

” I enjoy the dining experience very much,
This is common with the "Shitamachi (traditional downtown area) culture" that I was born and raised in,
I think the communication with people that comes from that is the starting point of my production. "

*"Shitamachi culture" represents Japan's traditional urban life, prevalent in Tokyo's older, working-class neighborhoods. It's like exploring an untouched corner of an old city, filled with narrow lanes, local vendors, modest eateries, and a strong sense of community. Festivals keep ancient traditions alive, and the affordable street food like sushi and soba noodles adds to its charm. Shitamachi is a living time capsule, offering a nostalgic glimpse into Japan's past amidst its modern cities.

Please take a look at the background of Ms. Noda's production.
