Izumi Okuyama's wood works are created using teak wood.
Teak wood has become difficult to obtain in recent years due to worldwide restrictions on logging from the standpoint of forest conservation, and has become a valuable material.
It is a water-resistant material that is not easily deformed by age, temperature, or humidity, and was even used in ship decks in the olden days.
Another appeal of this material is that its color deepens as it ages, and as it is used over time, it takes on a new look.
Ms. Okuyama is particular about this material and carves and files each piece by hand.
The hand-carved pieces are sanded many times and finished with oil, and linseed oil is used for the finish, ensuring long and safe use.
We believe that you will enjoy the changes in the piece as you slowly spend time with it and use it.
