Collection:
Tenko
We are excited to introduce the works of Tenko, a ceramic artist based in Berlin, Germany, for the first time at LUCKYRECORDS.
Each piece is crafted using a hand-building technique, giving every creation a unique character and leaving a lasting impression.
This is a rare opportunity to showcase Tenko’s work in Japan, and we hope you will take the chance to experience these special pieces for yourself.
Mizuki Tanaka, working under the name Tenko, creates art for those ‘who can’t sleep at night’. Her ceramics are dreamy concoctions that blur together nostalgic childhood memories, expressing ‘the existence of another world, coexisting with ours’.
Mizuki started making ceramics during Covid-19 lockdowns, when university workshops and studios were closed for public access. Seeking ways to continue making art at home, she started creating clay forms by hand. Mizuki relishes the
freedom hand-building ceramics offers. She says, of the technique: ‘It's a time when my confidence returns and I can genuinely enjoy the creative process, which is absolutely essential for me as an artist.’
Mizuki’s ceramic works include functional objects, such as candlesticks and incense holders, as well as decorative pieces like dollhouses. Her visual language spans the bridge between surrealism and realism; while there are details that might be instantly recognisable, the works are ‘free because it’s fantasy’. She hopes that ‘people who look at [her] artwork can find some peace of mind’.
