I walk with my head down when it's light out, looking for traces people leave behind, like notes and receipts.
As it gets dark, and there's nothing much to see, I tilt my head just enough to avoid aches.
Focusing on the brightness of the stars helps me escape the fear of dark paths.
Signals, streetlights, stars - all flickering.
Walking on concrete, yet cockleburs are sticking to my pants.
I walk past house blaring Bach in the dead of night, startled by animal cries and the sounds of something fleeing.
I like feeling the paradox of inhabited yet empty streets.
I'm active when everyone else sleeps, and asleep when they're awake.
It's happiness for me.
There's comfort in the unease.

We are pleased to present the work of Rena Kudo. Ms. Kudo chooses a variety of media and materials, mainly ceramics, but also painting and drawing.
"Cup Flavored Drawing" is a series of ceramic drawings, positioned like drawings in paintings, in which she experiments with materials, forms, and themes.
In talking with Ms. Kudo about this series of works with "night" as the central theme, we heard key words such as Kenji Miyazawa, stone, and time. When you hold one of her works in your hands, you will see a different night scene in each one. Please take this opportunity to view the works.

Based on her personal chaos such as anonymous memories mixed together while she moves around different areas, her child self that she cannot discard, and dreams that seem abrupt, she expresses them in painting, pottery, drawing and so on to create a world that one feels like they have seen it but have not actually seen it. At present, she does not have a base staying at different places mainly in Asia and makes her work while she travels.
