Collection: Genta Honnoh

Introducing the brooches and magnets of Genta Honnoh, a sculptor whose main activity is "cardboard sculpture" in which cardboard is colored with acrylic paint. Each piece is carefully made from cardboard, but it has a soft wood-like texture. With the motif of animals, nature, and things that you often see in everyday life, it is full of animistic charm. We asked Mr. Honnoh about the process of production.

"I just want to make a big sculpture. If possible, don't spend too much money."
From around 2003, I started making sculptures with cardboard.
It started from "without spending money", but he made sculptures with cardboard because the rugged and uncontrollable unbalanced atmosphere made with cardboard matched what he wanted to make. He continue to do that.

Large sculptures have a limited space and take a long time to produce, so the price must be set high and not many can be sold.
The storage space for my work is getting filled up, but as I get more and more things I want to make, I'm going to make smaller ones, and eventually it's as small as a brooch. I arrived at the work.

I didn't think too much about it, but the brooch had the advantage of being able to wear the work and feel closer to it. Also, by attaching the magnet to a refrigerator in any home, you can feel the work closer to you.
Both brooch magnets are shaped with cardboard and painted with acrylic paint. Acrylic paint is water resistant when it dries, and since it is coated with plenty of acrylic paint, it will be messy even if it gets wet with a little rain.
